SMU Cox School of Business was established in 1965 as the SMU Foundation for Business Administration through a partnership with leading Dallas businesses who advised and influenced the direction and strategies of the business school’s development. Today, this group is known as the Cox Executive Board, consisting of corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders world wide. The business school was then renamed in 1978 to honor businessman Edwin L. Cox, the owner of a successful investment company in Dallas.
SMU Cox ranks number 25 of all business schools in ROI according to Forbes. It is one of the only business schools in Texas with three top-tier MBA programs. SMU Cox School of Business is known for its networking opportunities, hands-on mentoring program and vast array industry connections.
Cox School has a strong history of developing innovative programs and resources for students, including the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship and the American Airlines Global Leadership Program and it’s Associate Board Executive Mentoring Program.
SMU Cox is located in the heart of Dallas, a global center for commerce and culture. The Full-time MBA Program is focused on providing opportunities for students through its combination of networks and corporate ties. Cox also prides themselves on their innovative business training, hands-on learning approach, and integration of education with local business and executives in the Dallas area.
This 21-month program offers students flexibility and professional training in several different areas of study. It begins with eight weeks of core courses that offer students different options in each area. An international exchange program is also offered with their partner schools in Asia, Australia, Europe, or Latin America. The curriculum for year one is presented on the right.
The second year is much more flexible and lets students choose from business electives in a variety of different concentrations. But first, students choose two different concentrations to study in the ares of:

- Information and Operations
- Business Analytics
SMU Cox Executive Education Program is a compilation of seminars and certificate programs designed to help executives master and enhance skills to adapt to the quickly ever-changing market.
The Professional Development courses are designed to help executives address career challenges head-on and work with leaders of the world’s top businesses. Courses are offered in:

- Business Intelligence
- Energy, Oil, and Gas
- Information Technology
- Leadership and Management
The Executive Education Program offers a team of SMU faculty and top practitioners from SMU’s corporate network. The James M. Collins Center is a popular venue for managers and leaders to hold conferences and part-take in discussions. The business school’s custom education methodology provides personalized coaching and consulting solutions for each individual student. These needs are determined and solutions are targeted early on near the beginning of enrollment with an assigned academic mentor
Cox School of Business also offers an Executive MBA Program that is ranked one of the best in the world. Technology advanced classrooms allow students to record classes and watch later if they can’t attend due to work obligations. Students are given access to the vast network of business contacts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and put in a classroom environment of study groups. Also, a variety of teaching centers offer different programs and specializations focusing on the latest research and best practices in that field.
The program is a broad, fast-paced, global leadership experience that enhances students ability to think globally, integrate ideas within their businesses and transform their careers. Much of the course work is in small groups and mimics real-world situations to exercise strategic problem solving skills and leadership within a team environment. The first year is a series of core competencies, followed by a summer and fall of core and elective classes. Year one’s topics include:

- Fundamental of Marketing
The remainder of the program is a mixture of core courses and electives. Students will master fundamentals in Applied Economics, Financial Management, Organizational Behavior, Statistics, Marketing Research, and Accounting. They’ll also choose from a wide selection of electives. The elective courses offered are:

- Mergers and Acquisitions

The Executive MBA program is 21 months long with classes on Fridays and Saturdays, every other week. Students must have eight years of work experience and two letters of recommendation, with completion of a personal interview and three essays to be eligible.
