Key Differentiators

Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University, has continued to expand and internationalise their global reach with a goal to become Europe’s most international and innovative business school.  They have a goal of creating leaders in thought, action and engagement in the greater world through teaching the skills of personal leadership development, creating new knowledge that emerges the business school as a research institute, and promoting and guiding relationships with leaders in business, society and academics.

The business school offers a distinctive educational culture and believes that leadership can be developed and taught through a combination of intellectual and practical challenges.  RSM is also constantly searching for creative new approaches for finding business solutions; one way the school does this is through collaborative group projects.  This teaching method is aligned with their values of critical thinking, innovation, sustainability and spirit.

RSM is partnered with businesses so that their educational programme serves the needs of particular businesses, the research performed by the school has an impact on the market, and the management education provided benefits from the ideas, knowledge and advice from the corporate partners.  Also, events that bring students together give these corporate partners the advantage to sift through and recruit the highest-quality students.

RSM has created a world-class research organisation by combining the highest-quality research and the most talented staff and students in the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM).  This institute has a mission to produce scientific research that makes an impact on organisational performance and improves competitiveness of a business.  Over 350 different researchers work together in these five areas of study:

  • Business Processes, Logistics & Information Systems
  • Organisation
  • Marketing
  • Finance & Accounting
  • Strategy

Courses

The Full-time International MBA is a one-year programme in English and gives students a broad general management knowledge base that allows them to move into management roles.  The programme also focuses on leadership development so that the necessary interpersonal skills to succeed in a business environment are acquired.  A minimum of three years post-graduate work experience is required for admittance into the programme.

The MBA programme is broken down into four terms. In term one, the foundations of management are covered through these courses:

  • Quantitative Platform for Business
  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Managerial Accounting
  • Management Science
  • Human Resource Management
  • Business, Society, and Sustainable Development

In term two, the practice of management is covered through these courses:

  • Strategic Management
  • Financial Management
  • Economic Environment of Business
  • Marketing Management
  • Operations Management

In term three, advanced career options are presented and students select one of the three career concentration courses offered in either corporate finance, marketing or strategy.  Students also complete a living management consulting project and take part in a themed research international project.

In the fourth term, students may choose specific electives to further their focus and also participate in a study immersion in China.  Students are also offered the experience of an exchange programme and also must take a “Women empowering women leadership” elective.

The Global Executive OneMBA is designed for senior executives and professionals and takes place over a 21 month period.  The curriculum is taught in English and consists of four week-long global residencies held on four different continents alongside projects designed to let executives bring value to their sponsoring companies.

The programme is rooted in sustainability and innovation and provides a basis for the continued development of business and community leadership.  The programme is partnered with five different schools in North America, South America, Asia and Europe and provides executives with an integrating experience on a truly global scale that will inspire them to grow and develop into a position with more global management responsibilities.

The Executive MBA Programme is 22 months, part-time and is designed for experienced and globally-oriented professionals.  The same depth and knowledge in the MBA curriculum is offered to executives, but is packaged in a longer period so students can maintain their career schedules.

The curriculum consists of leadership and team-building skills, analytical and critical thinking about business issues and craft strategies, applied learning, building an international perspective in different economic and cultural environments, and the creation of global networks of high-achieving peers, industry leaders, academics and business thinkers.

The programme gives executives the opportunity to further develop their managerial skills in a professional setting alongside other executives who are at the same point in their career path.  The programme also aims to enhance their leadership skills so they can confidently lead a team of professionals as a senior executive in their business.

RSM also offers Executive Education Programmes in open-enrollment and customisable formats.  The open-enrollment programmes are designed to sharpen executives’ skills in specific areas and boost their business prospects.  Programmes are offered in almost every stage of the typical executives career and give them practical tools based on the most up-to-date research and coaching in personal development.
